Since it’s now pushing late July, it’s probably time to start thinking about the tradition that gives us all an extra weekend of summer…the Joe and Angie Classic! The J&A’s hitting its teenage years, and just like you have to throw a curveball to a teenager to stop them from thinking things are boring, a new wrinkle is being introduced to the J&A this year.
We’re still going to follow the classic J&A rules- four-man teams, A through D players, use one drive from each player per nine holes- but instead of me putting the teams together, we’re going to go with a blind draw for teams this year. Basically, I’m going to put the A guys in a hat, the B guys in a different hat, etc. and then draw one name from each hat to form teams*. Yes, this could produce some foursomes that might be akin to Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Kim Jong-Un (obviously he’s the A guy) and Vladimir Putin, but hey, no one’s scared of some fireworks, are they? Besides, I don’t think anyone’s going to bring any nukes to the tournament…just shanks.
The rest of the details:
Saturday, September 12 @ Frederic Country Club
First tee time around 11:00am (a little later than in years past)
$25 entry fee to cover prizes and swag (payable to me at dan.hinrichs@gmail.com via PayPal prior to the tournament)
$40 for golf, cart and post-tournament taco bar (payable the day of the tournament)
If you have a USGA handicap index or a handicap determined from a league, the TC4C or any other competition, please send that information over. That’ll help greatly when it comes to figuring out which flights people belong in.
I currently have nine tee times booked at the course, which means we have room for 36 golfers. To lock in your spot, send me your $25 entry fee right away! If we get more than 36 I’ll try to grab extra tee times, but if I can’t then the first 36 paid entries are the ones that are in.
Hope to see you in Frederic on the 12th!
*Generally the A flight consists of players with handicaps ranging from 2-10. Since there is an immense difference in a 2-handicapper vs a 10-handicapper, I will be breaking the A flight into A+ and A- golfers. The top 4 players will be considered A+ players, and they will be paired up with one of the four B- players. Likewise, the five A- players will be paired with B+ players. The C and D flights won’t be subdivided. I’m planning on doing the draw a few days before the tournament, and maybe I’ll broadcast it on Periscope or something (hey, a teenage tournament has to use some kind of social media, right?).
